On May 7, 2025, every air traveler 18 years of age and older will need a REAL ID compliant driver’s license or another acceptable form of ID to fly within the United States. Check if your Florida driver license is REAL ID complaint by checking for the gold star in the upper right corner of your license. If you are not sure, contact us to find out.

Driver License & ID Services
The Hillsborough County Tax Collector is an independent Constitutional Officer who serves as an agent to the Florida Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles. Our office is responsible for the issuance and renewal of Florida driver licenses and identification cards.

Road Test services are available by appointment ONLY and to Hillsborough County residents ONLY. A driver license or alien number will be required at the time of booking.
Road tests, driver license & ID card services for Non-US Citizens, oral exams, and medical road test exams are available to Hillsborough County residents only.
Road Tests are administered Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm at the following locations:
- Brandon – 3030 North Falkenburg Road, Tampa, Florida 33619
- East Tampa – 2814 E. Hillsborough Ave., Tampa, Florida 33610
- Plant City – 4706 Sydney Road, Plant City, Florida 33566
For an additional fee, customers can schedule a road test at one of the approved private agencies listed on the State site.

Senate Bill 1718
The governor signed Senate Bill 1718, which became law on July 1, 2023. This new law does not change our current procedures for getting an ID or drivers license. Please see our guides for required documentation.
